REALLY THINK ABOUT THIS....
Many people have their own personal beliefs about the afterlife or where they think they will end up after this life is over. Some believe that they will be reborn as an animial or a king, some believe they will become angels, and some believe that they will just experience nothing at all. In fact, most people believe that they are on the road to Heaven. Most people believe that they have lived a life good enough to please their personal god, and will eventually be granted entrance to paradise. What people fail to realize is that we can't just think up in our minds what will happen when we die. We can't rely on our own personal beliefs to give us assurance about what our eternal destiny is.
The Bible offers us a subjective TRUTH about what awaits each of us on the other side. The Bible says that it is appointed to a man once to die, and afterwards comes the judgement (Hebrews 9:27). The Bible says that all of us will be judged by the God of the universe! But by what standard will we be judged? We will be judged by the standard of His law. The Ten Commandments gives us His holy standard and we must perfectly keep them. Lets look at the Ten Commandments and see how you measure up:
1. You shall have no other gods before me.
( Have you ALWAYS put God first in EVERY aspect of your life? )
2. You shall not make any graven image...
( Have you worshiped any other god than the God of the Bible? Have made up an idea of what you though God was like in your mind? )
3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
( Have you ever said the name of God in a dishonerable way? OMG? GD? )
4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
5. Honor your father and mother.
( Have you ever been grounded? Have you ever brought shame to your parents? )
6. You shall not murder.
( Have you ever hated someone? Read Matt 5:21-22 )
7. You shall not commit adultery.
( Have you ever looked at someone with sexual desire? Read Matt 5:27-28 )
8. You shall not steal.
( Have you ever stolen ANYTHING ever in your life? )
9. You shall not lie.
( Have you ever told a lie? A white lie? )
10. You shall not covet.
( Have you ever wanted something that belonged to someone else? )
You are probably thinking how badly you have failed to keep God's Ten Commandments. Also, you are probably wondering "who in the world can keep these commandments?" The Bible says that "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God"(Romans 3:23). The fact is that there is NOTHING that you can do to earn Heaven or merritt His favor. All people are guilty of breaking the law of God and are now under God's wrath (Colossians 3:6, John 3:36). The due punishment for breaking God's law is to spend eternity separated from Him in Hell.
Going to Hell is not what God wants for you though. God, in His rich mercy and kindness, sent His Son JESUS CHRIST to die on the cross and take your punishment for you, then He rose up from the dead on the third day (John 3:16). Jesus bore YOUR punishment on the cross 2000 years ago, so that you dont have to end up in Hell! That is the good news! What do you have to do to recieve this payment?:
1. REPENT
Turn from living for yourself and turn to Christ. Confess your sins to God: He WILL forgive you! Repentance is not perfection, but it is a change in DIRECTION. Your affections will be different. What you used to love (Sin), you now hate. What you used to hate (God), you now love.
2. BELIEVE/TRUST
You have to rely on Jesus Christ alone to be saved from Hell. He took your punishment on the cross, and that's the only way you will see Heaven. You have to believe this good news in order to be saved. Trust Him and rely on Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross.
